MY FINAL MVP

MY FINAL MVP:

My idea: to produce and market a reality television competition series, using my well-developed programming concept of deeply researching/investigating the biggest crimes in American history. And obtain startup-finance by collaborating with part-time account executive trainees who will be required to pay fees for chances to receive large commissions from selling advertising time to advertisers.:

:
SOLUTION:.:

1. Use email campaigns to refine and market to key target audiences.

2. Write and post targeted articles on the same webpages where the customers can read about and purchase the exclusive licenses.

3. Let potential customers know that they can choose other advertisers to sale ad time to, not just the ones presented to them.

Produce and post sample episodes of the planned televisio series.

4. Focus on college students who major in Marketing or Advertising, as the next target audience.

ACTION PLAN:

1. Connect with a relatively well-known documentary producer, who have indicated a desire to work on my project, for help in producing the series.

2. Study and use effective social media strategies to reach target audiences.

3.Experiment with different price points.

4. Take relevant college courses at local universities.

5. Post comments on on-line articles about one or more of the "Biggest Crime(s) In American History," to generate interest in my project.

Success Metric:

To gross an average of $100 per month after implementing this MVP.

QUESTIONS and ANSWERS:

Questions: Hi Robert! Sorry, I'm really confused on what you're selling: is it a reality series, and you're having companies pay to sponsor an episode..? Will this be a web series or something on network TV? The fill in the blanks give a slightly better glimpse at the story but still leave me with questions. For the first action point of email campaigning, how will you draw people in to sign up for your list? Do you have any example videos you've done?

Answers: Yes, the idea is for companies to pay to sponsor episode(s). My project can be confusing because I want to give potential collaborators, advertisers, etc., an idea of the contents of the series, as well as present my offer to potential ad marketing trainees, all on the same website. Thank you for letting me realize that more clarification is needed. The "fill in the blanks" section was not meant to be part of the description of the series. They are a separate part of the site. I will make changes to better indicate that. The fourth paragraph of my prototype need to be more clarified to show that the goal is to produce a television series and until it is possible to do that, cable, radio, and web series, are other options to consider. This is the link to the prototype http://www.firstbiggestcrime.blogspot.com/p/product-exclusive-license-to-arrange-to_14.html

I will use facebook, twitter, linkedin, and other social networking sites, as well as going to events and going out in the public, to collect opt-ins. Producing sample footage is one of my next-steps

FEEDBACK:

Hi Robert, with the hopes of giving you the best possible feedback possible, your MVP pitch is not a convincing sell. It needs to convince us to back you, however it comes across that you have very little understanding of how advertisers work. They are highly unlikely to want to sponsor a show unless you have a dedicated proven audience - and working from scratch like you are you don't have this or any way of proving you will gain one.

OR (and this is harder) if your show content is closely connected to their brand & you give them ability to use the content themselves in other ways such as on their website and promotional campaigns. In this model they will see you as a service provider and will be comparing working with you to hiring a director to make them some content. Not really what you want.

What kind of brand will want to align with a show about Crime? A reality TV show like Masterchef can get support from food & cooking brands, so you need to think which brands will want product placement and affiliation with a true crime reality show. Would it be home insurance? Guns? Security systems?

As far as your business model goes... are you kidding me? I can't think of a single account executive who would pay for a chance to earn a commission on ad sales. They get paid a salary or commission straight up right now, you're not offering them anything of better value to warrant a fee like that.

If you're serious about getting your show up, create it as a cheap web series or blog to start, and gain an audience as a first step. Then you can begin talking to advertisers and scale up the production - they are your customers (not account executives!). What they want is an audience, and there are plenty of places they can already buy that from, so until you have a proven one and can offer extra value it's no-go.

all the best

RESPONSE:

Hello, Luci. Thank you for your feedback. My main focus right now is to recruit people who are willing to invest $1000 to be a part of my project. Mostly people who believe in themselves but who do not have the luxury of presenting fancy pedigrees to advertising agencies or marketing firms to get hired.

I am offering 15 years of participation for the investment because I realize that this need to be a long-term type of project (for obtaining national advertisers).

The points you raise are valuable. Although I have considered most of them before, it would have been ill-advisable if you did not raise them here, given your background, and the needs of all the students here, and not just my own needs.

The advanced nature of your advise is the type that I will definitely seek in the future. Hopefully I will recruit one or two bootstrapping "hotshots" who will help make the time period between that future a short one.
